PCB panelization is a mainstream process in electronic manufacturing, which connects multiple small PCBs into a whole board through V-CUT or stamp holes to improve processing and SMT efficiency. However, traditional manual detection requires point-by-point measurement of each sub-board contour, positioning hole and slot, resulting in low efficiency and poor consistency, which easily becomes a bottleneck restricting mass production throughput. The automatic batch measurement function of SIG video measuring machines provides an efficient optical dimensional measurement solution for PCB panel inspection.
SIG OMM video measuring machines are equipped with large-stroke glass workbenches, supporting overall inspection of complete large-size PCB panels without splitting sub-boards. The equipment adapts to all mainstream panel types including V-CUT panels and stamp hole panels, covering full-dimensional detection of overall board outline, sub-board geometric parameters, hole position spacing and slot dimensions.
The automatic batch measurement process is divided into two core stages: first-article programming and batch cyclic detection. In the programming stage, operators establish a benchmark coordinate system based on PCB panel edges or positioning holes, and record motion paths, lens magnification and light source parameters by collecting key detection features. For array panel structures with repeated units, the one-click array replication function generates a complete measurement program only by editing a single sub-board program, greatly shortening programming time.
After program verification with qualified first articles, mass detection can be realized efficiently. The intelligent workpiece alignment function allows random placement of PCB panels without manual positioning correction. The system automatically identifies benchmark features to complete coordinate compensation, and the equipment runs fully automatically to complete optical dimensional measurement of all features and generate complete inspection reports.
To adapt to complex on-site working conditions, the equipment solves common pain points in panel detection. The optional automatic focusing module eliminates blurry imaging caused by slight warpage of thin PCB panels, ensuring clear imaging of all detection points. The program supports independent light source parameter binding for different features, automatically switching transmitted light and surface light during operation to adapt to contour and hole detection respectively. The built-in image filtering function removes interference from processing debris and surface dust to ensure accurate edge recognition.
All batch measurement data is automatically stored and classified by sub-board units. The system supports PDF report export and SPC data analysis, helping quality personnel monitor dimensional fluctuation trends of mass PCBs. Early warning of drifting process parameters can effectively avoid batch defective products caused by tool wear and equipment parameter deviation.
This automatic PCB measurement solution is highly suitable for mass production scenarios with large inspection volume and dense detection points. It effectively solves low efficiency and poor consistency of traditional manual detection, greatly improving the overall quality control efficiency of PCB panel production while maintaining micron-level measurement accuracy.
