The traditional method, such as Vickers, is to apply force directly, and then observe the indentation. It use theoptical microscopy system to measure the diagonal of Vickers indention to get Vickers hardness of materia on benchtop micro-Vickers hardness tester. The traditional Brinell, Rockwell and Vickers hardness tests are not convenient for on-site measurement, and the Leeb hardne s not the force value and deformation measurement.
In order to be satisfied with the traditional hardness test concept (measurement of force and deformation) and at the same time facilitate field application, the ultrasonic hardness tester adopts the ultrasonic principle and replaces the optical or grating to measure the deformation with the frequency change, so as to realize the real mechanical test on the spot.
Under a uniform contact pressure, the resonance frequency of the probe changes with the hardness.The purpose of measuring the hardness is achieved by measuring the change of the frequency. The damage of the test piece is extremely small, which has great advantages compared with the other methods mentioned above.The measuring principle of the ultrasonic hardness tester is that the diamond indenter of the hardness tester is in contact with the test piece.
