June 6th, 2012, a passenger carry-on baggage with a number of powerful magnets, was seized in the security channel of Guangzhou Baiyun airport. It has put an end to a possible hidden danger of aviation safety.
At 10:00 am, a traveler surnamed Li was going to take the flight CZ3403 from Guangzhou to Chongqing. When he was checked in Baiyun Airport security channel, the officer who is responsible for the X-ray machine inspection found some strange and special items in one of his suitcases. The display images showing some black objects shaped in strip, bar and sphere. After their inspection, the objects were proved as some powerful magnets. Actually, they are the strongest rare earth permanent magnets in the world at present.
When the screeners told the passenger Mr. Lee not to carry these magnets to the airplane, he said these powerful magnets were taken to the customer to do samples testing, he did not understand the dangers. After hearing the explanation, the passenger Mr. Lee understands the risk and danger of taking magnets to the airplane. He decided to abandon the magnets samples and on board himself finally.
Civil Aviation provides that: passengers are prohibited to carry on or ship any strongly magnetized objects which may interfere the normal work of a variety of instruments in the aircraft.
Therefore, the security department kindly reminds travelers: For your and some other's safety, please do not carry objects with strong magnetism to airplanes.
