In transformer manufacturing and maintenance, the flatness of the cooling surface directly determines heat dissipation efficiency and long-term stability. Excessive flatness deviation leads to poor contact between the radiator and transformer body, causing local overheating, accelerated insulation aging, and even failure. The integration of optical measurement and laser technology provides a non-contact, high-precision Geometric Dimension Measurement solution for transformer cooling surfaces.
During operation, the transformer core and windings generate significant heat that must be quickly conducted away via cooling fins or radiators. Flatness errors create air gaps (air thermal conductivity is only 1/1000 that of metal), resulting in sharply increased thermal resistance. Actual tests show: for every 0.1mm increase in flatness deviation, the hotspot temperature may rise by 5–8°C. Therefore, flatness control in Geometric Dimension Measurement is critical for transformer efficiency and lifespan.
Vernier calipers, feeler gauges, or manual dial gauges are inefficient, with sparse sampling points that fail to reflect the overall contour. CMMs (coordinate measuring machines) offer high accuracy but are slow, require specialized programming, and are not convenient for on-site mobile inspection. For large transformer cooling surfaces (commonly 500×1000mm or larger), a fast, full-surface, digital inspection method is urgently needed.
Sinowon introduces the Laser Vision Measuring Machine, which innovatively integrates OMM (Optical Measurement Machine) with laser displacement sensing technology, enabling simultaneous “vision for contour + laser for height” operation:
Beyond flatness, this Vision Measuring Machine also excels at:
The included automated Video Measuring System software has a built-in SPC statistical analysis module, automatically generating flatness color maps, deviation distribution histograms, and supports exporting PDF/Excel reports, with MES system connectivity for quality traceability. The operator simply: “place workpiece → start program → view results”. Full inspection time per part is reduced from 30 minutes (traditional) to less than 3 minutes.
This technology has been applied to EV battery cold plates, IGBT cooling substrates, wind power converter radiators, and more. For any flat component requiring contact surface quality control, the combination of OMM and laser measurement is highly effective.
