The IR thermometers are based on the infrared technology that helps analyze the thermal radiations emitted by each object. These radiations are converted by the thermometer into electric signals and show in the form heat units. These units help understand the exact way in which the machines function, and locate the problem area, if any.
However, just like more other technologies, these infrared devices have evolved over time. These thermometers could catch only a certain level of radiations and the readings were not very accurate. Over the years, most technicians swear by the accuracy and in depth analysis provided by these devices. Let us see how these noncontact thermometers have updated themselves with time.
The response time between carrying out measurements and displayed results has significantly reduced. You may now get almost real time results, unlike the older devices that took several minutes.
The IR thermometers can now analyze any kind of object whether it is still or in motion. That is, you can get the exact measurements from a rotating or vibrating object. Earlier, measurements were only possible with stationary machines.
You may now measure higher ranges of temperature over 1500 degrees, without having to worry about inaccurate readings or failure of the device.
The mini infrared thermometers allow you to check the machine for damage or maintenance without having to physically contact it, which ensure utmost safety of the workers. As well as no contamination of the IR lens.
Earlier, with the introduction the non contact feature, there was a likelihood of getting measurements of larger areas, rather than the actual problem section. The IR thermometers, these days, come with the laser tagging system that helps gain insight into the exact location.
These devices are getting more and more compact by the day, as the lens diameters are reducing. However, the focus and capacity of the thermometers remains the same.
The IR thermometers are more cost-effective as compared to their older counterparts, as now these lenses and detectors are produced on a mass scale.
From being bulky, inaccurate and expensive devices, to being portable, pocket-friendly and must-have devices; these thermometers have come a long way.
